After a delicious breakfast (complimentary for our hotel guests), you can stroll over to see our fleet of new Four wheelers.  We start with a brief explanation of how to drive, the safety rules and a little driving practice. Then it is off we go to a private farm, through a beautiful scenario of nature, trees, birds and animals.  Enjoy the view all the way to our first stop at a very high point on the base of the volcano.  From there you can see the entire area and of course the Majestic Arenal Volcano. After short break to relax with a refreshing drink,  we are all set for the rest of the adventure. We will drive to the Arenal River going through La Guaria town, once at the river you can swim, rest for a while and head back to the hotel restaurant to have a delicious lunch or dinner.

The area around the Arenal volcano offers something for everyone. My personal favorite activity is soaking in one of the numerous hot springs around the base of the volcano. There are several day spas in the area,and are worth the price of admission. Most offer swim up bars and cool down pools. Your hotel offers free transportation to the hot springs or to the nearby small town of La Fortuna.

There is also terrific fishing to be enjoyed on Lake Arenal - fly fishermen go after both Rainbow Bass and the spirited Machaca. Lake Arenal is also world renowned for wind surfing, and hikers also enjoy trekking to the waterfall outside of the town of La Fortuna.

Of course, the most compelling reason to visit this area is the volcano itself. Once you have heard it sigh, groan, and rumble, you will understand why some ancient people worshiped volcanoes as gods. All room classes at your hotel offer spectacular views of this awe inspiring natural spectacle.

In the early 1950s a small group of Quaker dairy farmers from the US settled on the mountain. The Quakers, with their peaceful ways and respect for the environment, were a perfect match for the hard working, gentle Costa Ricans already living here. Since that time, several reserves have been founded where you can walk for hours in the splendor of the cloudforest.

Many artists, researchers and educators either make their homes here or are frequent visitors. Several alternative schools, an institute for cloudforest education, a woman's arts cooperative, and a yearly concert series illustrate the cultural experience awaiting you here.

Numerous canopy adventures (both walkways and cables), an orchid garden, a butterfly farm, a rainforest tram, a frog zoo, a serpentarium and insectarium can also be found here. Due to the numerous activities, we recommend a minimum of three nights to experience as much as possible.

Opened in 2000, Hotel Poco a Poco started as a beautiful and cozy hotel of just 5 rooms.

Then "Little by Little" as the name of the hotel stands for; the owners began with an ambitious plan to expand the facilities without loosing their Vision of Cozy Style and Quality Service. The hotel now offers 32 deluxe fully equipped rooms, a restaurant with the best fusion of native and foreign cuisine, a beautiful heated swimming pool, jacuzzi wet bar, and gardens full of native flowers, butterflies and hummingbirds.

Hotel Poco a Poco offers a strategic location, only four hundred meters from downtown Santa Elena, home to lots of shops, restaurants and tour companies. Located just a short 15 minutes drive from The Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve, one of the most famous cloud forests in the world, or The Reserve of Santa Elenatowards the north of the mountain range, a community managed biological preserve.

The Quetzal's Nest is Located only 700 meters (about 1/2 mile) from the entrance to the world famous Monteverde Cloudforest Biological Reserve.

The home features two bedrooms with a queen bed in each, a full kitchen, one bath, and a native species garden. There is a queen size futon sofa in the living rooms too.

Fully equipped home, with everything a couple or small family needs to live like a local in this beautiful location.

It is on the main road, but a little remote. This is a great choice if you have your own vehicle. But our local manager's family operates a taxi, and is happy to assist with transportation.

This option offers an amazing setting. Completely surrounded by 70 acres cloudforest, you can often spot animals onsite. Yet, it is only a $5.00 taxi ride to the town center. The rooms here are a little more basic. No telephones or TVs. But there is WiFi on the entire property. The lounge area attached to the restaurant has fantastic view at sunset. A peaceful retreat in a stunning setting.

This is one of the most popular areas in the country, and for very good reason. The National Park has some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Costa Rica, and is simply teeming with wildlife. The tambolo here is one of the most perfect in the world.

Built up from thousands of years of wave-action, the narrow isthmus connects the island to the mainland. Three of the four species of monkey found in Costa Rica are present here, as are dozens of species of birds. The stunning National park used to be the only game in town. But as the area has become more popular, the options have grown.

The billfishing in this area is some of the finest in the world, with many world records taken off the coast here. There are a multitude of tours to keep the active visitor happy. Jungle canopy tours, whitewater rafting, horseback tours, ATV tours, even ultralight flights are available here. In the evenings, head out to any of the fine little restaurants for fresh seafood at bargain prices. This is an easy area to get around - you will not need a car. This area has it all.

There is a seven-kilometer (four mile) long road leading from the little fishing town of Quepos and ending at the National Park. All hotels, restaurants, cafes, etc are either in Quepos or on this one road. Our Manuel Antonio hotel partners are conveniently located along or a very short walk from the main road.

It was difficult to find a single hotel, that would fill the various needs of every type of group we have visiting the Manuel Antonio region. So we have THREE different options for lodging in this area.

Hotel Plaza Yara is the least expensive option, and is the base hotel offered in our packages.

Hotel Costa Verde is a very well known hotel. Their 727 suite has been featured in major travel magazines, and television shows. They took the fuselage of a 727, and converted it into a luxury accommodation!.

All the spacious and comfortable rooms are built in fine woods and are equipped with either one double and one single bed or three single beds. All feature a private bathroom with hot water, ceiling fans, and a safety box. All rooms also offer space to relax in a comfortable chair to enjoy the tranquil garden views.

Enjoy the pool surrounded by exotic gardens and relax in the ranchos with hammocks. When you are not busy on one of the tours included in your package, you can stroll through the nature trails or take a leisurely walk on the beach in front of the lodge. From July to September, impressive Green Sea Turtles (Chelonia Mydas) nest on the beach at Tortuguero, the most important site in the occidental half of the Caribbean for the nesting of these amazing turtles.
